Chinese President Xi Jinping warned that tensions over Taiwan could lead to serious confrontation between China and the United States during high-level talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing. The warning came as both leaders held discussions focused on trade disputes, military tensions, and regional security issues in the Indo-Pacific region.

According to Chinese state media, Xi stressed that Taiwan remains the “core of China’s core interests” and said any attempts to support Taiwanese independence would cross Beijing’s red lines. He reportedly told Trump that mishandling the Taiwan issue could damage bilateral relations and potentially trigger wider instability in the region.

The summit follows months of rising military activity near the Taiwan Strait, including Chinese naval drills and increased U.S. military presence in the Indo-Pacific. Beijing has repeatedly opposed American arms sales and diplomatic support for Taiwan, which China considers part of its territory. Taiwan’s government, however, continues to reject Beijing’s sovereignty claims.

While both sides described the talks as “constructive,” no major agreements were announced after the meeting. Analysts say the Taiwan issue remains one of the most sensitive flashpoints in U.S.-China relations and could significantly shape global geopolitical stability in the coming years.
