Ukraine has announced plans for retaliatory strikes against Russian military and energy infrastructure following one of the deadliest Russian bombardments on Kyiv in recent months. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attacks on civilians “will not go unpunished” after Russian missile strikes killed at least 24 people, including children, in the Ukrainian capital.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched a massive wave of missiles and drones targeting residential districts and infrastructure across Kyiv over a three-day period. Emergency teams spent more than 24 hours rescuing survivors and recovering bodies from collapsed apartment buildings in the Darnytskyi district. Kyiv authorities declared a day of mourning following the attack.
President Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine’s military and intelligence agencies have already prepared possible response operations. Ukrainian forces later carried out large-scale drone attacks targeting Russian oil refineries and strategic facilities, including the Ryazan refinery southeast of Moscow, where major fires were reported.
Russia claimed the strikes were aimed at Ukrainian military infrastructure, while Ukraine accused Moscow of deliberately targeting civilian areas. International leaders and Western diplomats condemned the attacks, with several countries renewing calls for stronger sanctions and additional air-defense support for Ukraine.
