A devastating forest fire in eastern Poland has claimed the life of a firefighting pilot and scorched more than 200 hectares of land, highlighting the growing risks posed by extreme weather conditions. The blaze broke out in the protected Solska Forest near the village of Kozaki in Biłgoraj County, rapidly spreading across dense woodland.

According to officials, the pilot was killed when a firefighting aircraft crashed while attempting to control the flames. Emergency services, including helicopters equipped with water-dropping systems, were deployed to tackle the fire, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. Authorities described the situation as serious, with multiple fire points complicating containment efforts.

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński stated there was no indication of arson, attributing the rapid spread to prolonged dry conditions and highly flammable coniferous forests. Strong winds and drought-like conditions further intensified the blaze, making firefighting operations more challenging.

Despite the scale of the fire, no evacuations have been ordered, as nearby settlements are located several kilometers away from the affected zone. However, authorities have warned that the coming hours are critical in bringing the situation under control.

The incident underscores the increasing frequency and intensity of wildfires across Europe, raising concerns about climate change and forest management practices.
