In a move aimed at improving passenger convenience and station accessibility, Southern Railway has announced the addition of 20 new parking facilities across key stations in the Chennai division.

According to railway officials, the newly developed parking zones are strategically located to address the growing demand for vehicle space, particularly in high-footfall stations. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize railway infrastructure and enhance last-mile connectivity for commuters.

The new facilities will cater to both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, with provisions for better traffic management, security surveillance, and digital payment systems. Authorities stated that several stations, including suburban and junction hubs, will benefit from the expansion, helping ease congestion in surrounding areas.

Officials also highlighted that the project aligns with Indian Railways’ ongoing push towards passenger-centric services and smart station development. Commuters have welcomed the move, noting that parking shortages have long been a concern in busy stations across the city.

Southern Railway confirmed that more such upgrades are being planned in phases, with a focus on improving overall travel experience in one of the country’s busiest rail networks. News as Reported.
