Railway authorities are preparing for a major trial run of the Vande Bharat Express between Bengaluru and Mangaluru, marking a significant step toward introducing faster rail connectivity on one of Karnataka’s most important routes. The trial is expected to assess operational performance, safety systems, and travel logistics across the challenging Western Ghats section.
The route will connect Bengaluru’s Yeshwantpur station with Mangaluru Central, passing through important locations such as Hassan, Sakleshpur, and Subrahmanya Road. Railway officials will evaluate travel times, crew operations, station handling, and safety performance before making decisions about regular service operations.
A specially equipped eight-coach Vande Bharat train featuring an Auto Emergency Brake system will be used during the trial. This technology is particularly important because the Western Ghats section contains steep gradients, sharp curves, and difficult terrain. The system automatically applies brakes if speed limits are exceeded, enhancing safety along the route.
The proposed service has generated considerable excitement among travelers, business communities, and tourism operators. Faster connectivity between Bengaluru and the coastal region could significantly improve business travel, tourism, and passenger convenience. Many residents currently rely on overnight trains or lengthy road journeys to reach Mangaluru.
If successful, the service could become one of Karnataka’s most important rail upgrades in recent years, strengthening connections between the state’s technology hub and its coastal economic centers while providing passengers with a faster and more comfortable travel option.
