Traffic restrictions have been imposed on the Goshree Bridge corridor in Kochi due to resurfacing and maintenance work being carried out on the Bolgatty bridge section. Authorities announced that the temporary traffic regulations will remain in effect today and tomorrow to facilitate urgent road repair activities and improve driving conditions on one of Kochi’s busiest transport routes.
According to traffic police officials, vehicles traveling between Ernakulam, Bolgatty, Vallarpadam, and Vypin may experience delays and diversions during the maintenance period. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes wherever possible and avoid peak travel hours to reduce congestion around the Goshree corridor.
The resurfacing work is aimed at repairing damaged road surfaces, potholes, and worn-out stretches on the bridge section near Bolgatty. Officials stated that the repairs are necessary to ensure safer traffic movement, especially ahead of the expected monsoon season when heavy rainfall could worsen road conditions. Residents and commuters have frequently raised concerns about traffic bottlenecks and deteriorating road surfaces on the Goshree bridges in recent months.
Police and traffic management teams have been deployed at key junctions to regulate vehicle movement and guide commuters through diversion routes. Heavy vehicles, including container trucks heading toward Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal, are expected to face stricter movement control during the repair period.
The Goshree bridge network is a vital connectivity corridor linking mainland Kochi with Bolgatty, Vallarpadam, and Vypin islands. The bridges play a major role in daily commuting, cargo transportation, tourism, and access to the International Container Transshipment Terminal.
Local residents welcomed the repair work but also urged authorities to complete the resurfacing quickly to avoid prolonged traffic disruptions. Several commuters reported long delays during previous maintenance works and stressed the need for better traffic coordination and long-term infrastructure upgrades.
Authorities have requested public cooperation during the ongoing repair operations and advised drivers to follow traffic instructions, diversion signs, and safety regulations until the resurfacing work is fully completed.
