The Kerala government has clarified that there is currently no decision to dismantle the LIFE Mission housing project despite ongoing political criticism and public debates surrounding the scheme. The clarification was issued after reports and allegations triggered confusion regarding the future of one of the state’s major housing initiatives.

Officials stated that the government remains committed to continuing the LIFE Mission project, which was launched to provide housing support to homeless and financially weaker families across Kerala. Authorities emphasized that the program continues to play an important role in addressing housing insecurity and improving living conditions for thousands of beneficiaries.

The clarification came amid criticism from opposition parties and discussions regarding project implementation, financial management, and administrative procedures connected to certain housing developments. Some political leaders had raised concerns over transparency, land allocation, and project execution in specific areas.

Responding to the controversy, government representatives stated that while administrative reviews and policy discussions may continue, there is no proposal to completely discontinue or dismantle the housing mission. Officials added that the focus remains on improving efficiency, ensuring transparency, and accelerating the completion of pending housing units.

The LIFE Mission project has been widely recognized for supporting low-income families, disaster-affected residents, and people without permanent housing. Thousands of homes have reportedly been completed under the scheme in various districts across Kerala over the past several years.

Meanwhile, political debates regarding the project are expected to continue in the Kerala Assembly, with opposition parties likely to seek further explanations on project funding, beneficiary selection, and implementation practices. Supporters of the scheme argued that the project should be strengthened rather than politicized, considering its social welfare importance.

Housing rights groups and beneficiary associations welcomed the government’s clarification and urged authorities to ensure uninterrupted completion of ongoing housing projects. Several families waiting for housing assistance expressed relief following the statement.

The government is expected to continue reviewing the project’s progress and administrative mechanisms while assuring that welfare housing initiatives under the LIFE Mission will move forward without disruption.
