HYDERABAD, September 15, 2026: Telangana Police have facilitated the return of around ₹139 crore to victims of cyber fraud, marking a significant step in the state’s efforts to combat the growing threat of online financial crimes.
The recovery effort comes amid a rise in cases involving fraudulent investment schemes, fake loan offers, impersonation scams, phishing links and other forms of digital financial fraud. Police teams have been working to identify suspicious transactions and prevent fraudulently transferred money from being moved further through the banking system.
According to police, prompt reporting by victims is crucial in recovering stolen funds. When a cyber fraud is reported quickly, investigators can approach banks and financial institutions to place holds on suspicious transactions and trace the movement of the money.
The state’s cybercrime units have also been strengthening coordination with banks, payment platforms and other agencies to track fraudulent transactions. Such coordination can help investigators identify accounts used by fraudsters and recover funds where possible.
Police have repeatedly urged the public to remain cautious while making online payments or responding to unsolicited messages. People have been advised not to share OTP numbers, UPI PINs, passwords, card details or other banking credentials with unknown callers or through suspicious websites and applications.
Authorities have also stressed the importance of immediately reporting cyber fraud instead of waiting to see whether the money can be recovered independently. Early reporting can give banks and law-enforcement agencies a better opportunity to block or trace the transaction.
The recovery of around ₹139 crore highlights the increasing focus on financial recovery alongside criminal investigation. However, police continue to warn that prevention remains the most effective protection as cybercriminals adopt increasingly sophisticated methods to target individuals.
Telangana Police are expected to continue strengthening their cybercrime response and public-awareness initiatives as the state works to protect citizens from the financial and personal risks associated with online fraud.
