The political row over the alleged NEET paper leak intensified on Tuesday as Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were briefly detained by Delhi Police during a protest near the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi. The protest demanded accountability for the examination controversy and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Several opposition parties joined the demonstrations, accusing the Centre of failing to protect the integrity of one of India’s most important entrance examinations.
Police stated that the protest violated security restrictions around the high-security zone, leading to preventive detentions. The leaders were later released. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) also criticized the government’s handling of the issue and reiterated its long-standing demand to abolish NEET. Meanwhile, the Education Ministry defended the examination process and accused opposition parties of politicizing the issue.
The controversy continues to dominate Parliament, with repeated disruptions affecting legislative business. Student organizations have also organized demonstrations in several cities demanding transparency, stronger examination security, and faster investigations into the alleged irregularities. Authorities have registered multiple FIRs connected to recent protests while investigations into the examination controversy continue. The issue remains one of the country’s biggest political debates, with both the government and opposition exchanging sharp accusations over responsibility and accountability
