ndia’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed deep concern over the growing number of attacks on commercial vessels in West Asian waters, warning that the incidents pose a serious threat to maritime security and the safety of Indian seafarers. The statement comes amid a series of attacks on merchant ships operating near the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the situation as “deeply worrisome” and reiterated India’s call for safe and unimpeded navigation in accordance with international law. The ministry urged all parties involved to avoid escalation and ensure the protection of civilian maritime traffic.
The concern follows recent incidents involving vessels carrying Indian crew members. According to official reports, multiple merchant ships have come under attack in the region, resulting in casualties and emergency evacuations. India has lodged strong diplomatic protests and is closely coordinating with the Indian Navy, shipping companies, and regional authorities to safeguard Indian nationals and maritime interests.
The government has placed relevant agencies on heightened alert and emphasized that freedom of navigation and maritime security are essential for global trade and regional stability.
