The Kochi Municipal Corporation has launched an ambitious 50-day action plan aimed at addressing key civic challenges across the city. The initiative focuses on sanitation, waste management, mosquito control, stray animal management, and improvement of basic public services.
Under the plan, ward-level inspections will be intensified, with officials instructed to submit weekly progress reports. Special teams have been formed to clean drains, remove waste from public spaces, and ensure proper functioning of community kitchens and public toilets. Authorities have also prioritised mosquito control measures ahead of the pre-monsoon season.
The Corporation has stated that the plan is designed to produce visible results within a short time frame and restore public confidence in civic administration. Residents’ associations will be encouraged to participate by reporting issues and monitoring local works.
While many citizens have welcomed the move, some activists have cautioned that similar initiatives in the past failed due to poor follow-up. They stress the need for accountability and transparency to ensure that targets are actually met.
Officials remain optimistic, stating that the plan is backed by strict timelines and coordination between departments. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the initiative can bring meaningful improvements to Kochi’s civic landscape.
