Kerala has officially begun the self-enumeration phase of Census 2027 today, marking an important step in India’s first fully digital census exercise. Residents across the state can now voluntarily submit their household information online through the official self-enumeration portal before field officials begin door-to-door data collection.

According to the Directorate of Census Operations, Kerala, the self-enumeration facility will remain available from June 16 to June 30, 2026. Following this period, the first phase of the census—known as the Houselisting and Housing Census—will be conducted through visits by enumerators from July 1 to July 30, 2026.

The Census 2027 exercise is significant because it will be India’s first fully digital census, with data collected using mobile applications and online platforms. Citizens can complete the process themselves through the official self-enumeration system, reducing paperwork and improving data accuracy. The self-enumeration portal and census applications are available in multiple languages, making participation easier for residents across the country.

Officials have urged households to provide accurate and complete information during the exercise. No supporting documents are required during self-enumeration or enumeration visits. The government has emphasized that truthful responses are essential for planning welfare schemes, infrastructure development, housing programs, education, healthcare, and other public services.

Kerala is expected to deploy more than 70,000 census personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, to conduct the large-scale survey across the state. Training programs for census staff have already been completed to ensure smooth implementation of the digital process.

The census will be conducted in two phases. The current phase focuses on collecting information about houses, household amenities, and living conditions. The second phase, scheduled for February 2027, will gather demographic information about individuals and families.

Authorities have encouraged all residents to participate actively in the self-enumeration process and cooperate with census officials during subsequent field visits. Officials stress that accurate census data plays a crucial role in policy-making, resource allocation, and future development planning for Kerala and the country as a whole.
