Indian equity markets came under pressure on Monday as investors reacted to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and expectations surrounding US interest rates. The Nifty 50 fell 0.25% to 23,838.65, while the BSE Sensex declined 0.24% to 76,335.07. Fourteen of the 16 broad sectoral indices ended lower, according to Reuters.

The information-technology sector was among the major areas facing pressure, falling around 2%. Investors remain concerned that higher US interest rates could affect spending by American companies, which is particularly significant for Indian IT companies that receive a large share of their revenue from overseas clients.

Rising crude oil prices are another concern for Indian markets because India imports a substantial amount of its energy requirements. Brent crude moved higher amid continuing tensions involving the US and Iran and uncertainty surrounding energy supplies.

Market participants are now watching upcoming US inflation data and developments in global geopolitics. Domestic investors are also expected to remain cautious while monitoring corporate earnings, currency movements and crude prices
