Kerala remains under a heightened weather alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of continued heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several parts of the state. The warning comes as the southwest monsoon remains active over Kerala, bringing widespread rain and increasing the risk of waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the IMD, isolated locations may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in districts that have already received substantial monsoon showers over the past week. Weather officials have advised residents to remain cautious, especially in hilly regions, riverbank areas, and locations prone to flooding and landslides.
State disaster management authorities have intensified monitoring efforts and urged local administrations to stay prepared for any emergency situations. Control rooms remain active, and rescue teams have been kept on standby in districts that are vulnerable to weather-related incidents. Authorities are closely tracking rainfall levels, river conditions, and weather forecasts.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Residents living near rivers, streams, and steep slopes have been asked to stay alert and follow official instructions. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea due to rough weather and hazardous sea conditions.
Urban areas are expected to face challenges such as waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to normal activities. Local bodies have been instructed to clear drainage systems and ensure that emergency response mechanisms remain operational throughout the monsoon period.
Meteorologists note that while the monsoon has shown signs of slowing in some parts of India, Kerala continues to receive favorable rainfall conditions due to active weather systems over the Arabian Sea and the southern peninsula. The state is therefore expected to experience intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rain in the coming days.
Authorities have urged citizens to rely only on official weather bulletins issued by the IMD and government agencies. Residents are advised to keep emergency supplies ready, avoid flooded roads, and immediately report any signs of landslides, tree falls, or flooding to local authorities.
With monsoon activity expected to remain significant, officials emphasize that public cooperation and preparedness will be essential to minimize risks and ensure safety across Kerala during the ongoing rainy season.
