HYDERABAD, September 26: Food safety officials have reported multiple violations during inspections at eateries in Telangana, including expired meat, improperly stored food, reused cooking oil and unlabelled food products.

The latest inspections were carried out by the Telangana Standard Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TGSAFE) at Monastery Amphi Brewery in Madhapur, Alpharam Hotel in Warangal and Malgudi Restaurant in Kamareddy. Officials reported several lapses in food storage and hygiene practices.

Among the violations detected were expired raw non-vegetarian meat, cooked food stored in freezers and around 5 kg of reused cooking oil. Officials also found unlabelled food items kept inside refrigerators.

The inspections also uncovered unlabelled synthetic food colour, expired food products and broken eggs in food preparation areas. The findings have raised concerns about adherence to food safety and hygiene requirements at commercial food establishments.

An improvement notice was issued to Alpharam Hotel in Warangal following the violations identified during the inspection. Authorities are expected to follow up on compliance with food safety requirements.

The latest inspections are part of a wider food-safety enforcement drive in Telangana. Earlier inspections in Hyderabad found expired food, pest infestations, poor kitchen hygiene and improper storage at several establishments, with eight eateries having their FSSAI licences suspended and another unlicensed outlet ordered to close.

Officials have also been collecting food samples for laboratory testing where adulteration or other violations are suspected. Further action, including penalties or additional restrictions, can follow depending on inspection findings and compliance by the establishments.

The enforcement drive highlights the importance of proper food storage, labelling, kitchen hygiene and safe handling practices, particularly as authorities continue inspections across Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.
