The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced plans to develop two major integrated transit hubs at Chepauk–Marina and Mint Street–Washermenpet to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the city. The project is estimated to cost around ₹40 crore.
According to officials, the hubs will connect multiple transport systems including metro rail, suburban trains, MTC buses, cycling facilities, pedestrian pathways, and last-mile transport services. The move is aimed at making travel smoother for daily commuters across Chennai.
The Chepauk–Marina corridor, one of Chennai’s busiest zones due to government offices, colleges, sports venues, and Marina Beach, will receive upgraded walkways, organised pick-up and drop-off areas, and better public transport access. Washermenpet and Mint Street areas are also expected to benefit from improved commuter movement and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.
Urban planners say the project is part of Chennai’s larger effort to strengthen multi-modal connectivity alongside the expanding metro rail network. News as Reported.
