India has completed its campaign at the 2026 Asian Games in fourth place with a total of 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The performance included several memorable achievements across different sporting disciplines.

Indian athletes produced strong performances in sports including hockey, shooting, archery and cricket. The Indian women’s cricket team created history by winning gold in the women’s cricket competition. India defeated Sri Lanka in the final by 147 runs after a powerful batting performance led by Smriti Mandhana.

The men’s hockey team also secured a gold medal, contributing to India’s overall medal tally.

Although India finished below its target of 100 medals, officials and sporting experts have highlighted the depth of talent demonstrated by the Indian contingent. The Asian Games campaign is also being viewed as an important preparation period for athletes targeting future international competitions, including the 2028 Olympics.

India’s fourth-place finish demonstrates continued progress in several Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines. The performances of younger athletes are particularly important because they provide opportunities for the country to build stronger teams for future global competitions.

The medal tally also reflects the increasing investment in elite sports, athlete development and international competition experience. India will now look to build on these performances and address areas where medal opportunities were missed.
