The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officer in connection with an alleged bribery case.

According to an October 6 report, CBI arrested DGCA Deputy Director (Airworthiness) Sushil Kumar Garg along with Sachin Keshav Bhane, director of Ekvi Air Training Organisation Private Limited.

The case reportedly involves allegations of financial payments connected with regulatory or aviation-related matters. Reports cited by The Indian Express said the alleged arrangement involved payments of around ₹50,000 per audit and a larger amount of approximately ₹2.5 lakh.

The arrests are part of an investigation by the country’s premier central investigative agency. Such cases are significant because aviation regulators are responsible for maintaining safety standards and ensuring that airlines, training organisations and aviation personnel comply with established rules.

The investigation will determine the exact circumstances surrounding the alleged payments and whether any regulatory decisions were improperly influenced.

An arrest is an investigative step and does not by itself establish guilt. The accused are entitled to due legal process, and the allegations will ultimately have to be established through the appropriate judicial proceedings.
