A weather system over the Bay of Bengal is bringing significant rainfall concerns for parts of eastern India. According to reports citing the India Meteorological Department, a deep depression is moving towards the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast. The system is expected to cross the coast between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur during the night of September 23 and early hours of September 24.Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall as the system moves west-northwestwards. Strong winds are also expected along and near the coast, with gusts potentially reaching around 75 kmph between September 23 and September 24. Several districts in Odisha have already taken precautionary measures. Schools have been closed in a number of districts, while authorities are preparing for possible waterlogging, flooding and landslides. The IMD has issued red alerts for some areas where extremely heavy rainfall is possible.

Authorities are advising residents in vulnerable areas to monitor official weather updates and follow local safety instructions. The system is currently described as a deep depression rather than a cyclone, although weather conditions remain closely monitored
