Indian equity markets moved higher during Monday morning trading after experiencing a prolonged period of weakness. Reuters reported that the Nifty 50 rose 0.13% to 23,376.70, while the BSE Sensex gained 0.50% to 74,665.35 by around 10:19 a.m. IST.
The modest recovery followed six consecutive weeks of losses for the benchmark indices. Market activity was supported by bargain buying and short covering, although investors remained cautious because of elevated crude oil prices and global geopolitical uncertainty.
Several major companies, including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries, recorded gains during the morning session. Some individual stocks also moved sharply following company-specific developments and new business orders.
Investor attention was also focused on the National Stock Exchange of India’s $2.3 billion initial public offering, which was scheduled to close on Monday after being fully subscribed earlier.
International developments, particularly movements in crude oil prices and tensions involving the Middle East, remain important factors for Indian markets.
Analysts and investors will continue watching foreign portfolio flows, oil prices, domestic economic data and global market movements as trading progresses through the week.
