A two-day conference focused on environmental and climate-related issues began in India on September 19. The conference is being organised by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and brings together judicial, government and legal stakeholders to discuss environmental challenges and climate dynamics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering and spoke about the distribution of responsibility for carbon emissions between developed and developing countries. According to his remarks reported by Hindustan Times, he argued that responsibility is sometimes incorrectly placed on developing nations.
The event was also attended by Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, Attorney General R. Venkataramani and NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava.
Environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, sustainability and legal mechanisms for environmental protection remain important areas of public policy in India. The conference provides a platform for discussions involving courts, government departments and environmental stakeholders.
The event is scheduled to continue on September 20, with participants expected to discuss various environmental and climate-related matters.
