India has welcomed the passage of legislation by the New Zealand Parliament to implement the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement. New Zealand lawmakers passed the legislation on September 16, marking an important step toward putting the agreement into effect. New Delhi on April 27, 2026. According to India’s Commerce Ministry, the agreement is designed to deepen economic relations between the two countries and improve market access for businesses.

A key feature highlighted by the Indian government is duty-free access for 100% of Indian exports to New Zealand when the agreement comes into force. The agreement is expected to create opportunities for Indian exporters across multiple sectors.

India and New Zealand are now working through their respective domestic procedures before the agreement can become operational. The implementation process is therefore an important next step.
