India is preparing to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12โ13, with Bharat Mandapam set to become the centre of high-level diplomatic discussions. India is chairing BRICS in 2026, with the theme โBuilding for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.โ Leaders from BRICS member and partner countries are expected to discuss economic cooperation, trade, technology, finance, global governance and issues affecting developing economies.
The summit is particularly important because BRICS has expanded significantly in recent years and now represents a larger share of the global economy and population. India is expected to push practical cooperation rather than allowing the grouping to become focused only on geopolitical rivalry. One proposal being prepared by India is a framework for faster sharing of financial and investigative information to help track economic fugitives across member countries.
The event is also expected to provide opportunities for India to strengthen diplomatic engagement with major countries, including China and Russia. With the summit approaching, security arrangements, traffic planning and preparations across New Delhi have been intensified.
