Indian Railways is continuing its large-scale modernisation programme, with investments focused on faster trains, upgraded railway stations, improved safety systems and better passenger facilities.

The expansion of semi-high-speed services such as Vande Bharat Express has become an important part of India’s railway modernisation strategy. New routes and improved infrastructure are expected to reduce travel times between major cities.

Railway stations across the country are also undergoing redevelopment. Modern stations are being designed with improved waiting areas, better accessibility, digital information systems and facilities for passengers with disabilities.

Safety remains another major priority. Indian Railways is introducing modern signalling and train-protection technologies to reduce the possibility of accidents and improve operational efficiency.

Electrification and the use of more energy-efficient railway systems are also helping the network reduce its dependence on diesel.

The railway sector is an important contributor to India’s economy because it connects cities, industrial centres and rural areas while transporting millions of passengers and large quantities of goods.

The modernisation programme is expected to improve passenger experience and strengthen India’s transportation infrastructure. At the same time, the expansion of rail connectivity can support economic activity and create new opportunities for businesses located along major railway corridors
