The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has intensified its dengue prevention campaign across the city following an increase in mosquito-borne disease cases during the monsoon season. The civic body has deployed additional health workers to carry out fogging operations, inspect residential areas, and eliminate mosquito breeding sites in high-risk zones.
As part of the drive, officials are conducting door-to-door inspections to identify stagnant water in homes, construction sites, and public spaces. Residents have been advised to regularly clean water storage containers, remove discarded items that can collect rainwater, and cooperate with health workers during inspections.
The GCC has also strengthened awareness campaigns through schools, local communities, and public announcements, encouraging citizens to report mosquito breeding spots and take preventive measures. Special surveillance teams have been deployed in areas that have reported higher numbers of dengue cases.
Health authorities said the intensified campaign aims to reduce mosquito populations and prevent the spread of dengue, particularly during the ongoing monsoon period when breeding conditions are most favorable. Officials have urged the public to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, body pain, or skin rashes, as early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent serious complications.
