Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a historic official visit to New Zealand, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years. During the visit, he held bilateral talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in Auckland.
The two leaders announced the elevation of India–New Zealand relations to a Strategic Partnership, reflecting a stronger commitment to cooperation in trade, defence, security, technology, education, and the Indo-Pacific region.
As part of the visit, both countries signed 18 agreements and unveiled a Roadmap to 2030, outlining collaboration in areas including defence cooperation, maritime security, investment, innovation, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges.
The leaders also reaffirmed their support for a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific while discussing ways to strengthen economic ties following the recently concluded Free Trade Agreement. PM Modi is also scheduled to address members of the Indian diaspora in Auckland during his visit.
