Bengaluru, July 7: A fresh bomb threat email sent to the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru triggered a major security operation on Monday, prompting authorities to evacuate parts of the high-security campus and conduct extensive searches. The latest alert marks the third bomb threat email received by the facility within four days, raising concerns over repeated attempts to disrupt operations.
According to police officials, the threatening email claimed that explosive devices had been planted inside ISRO’s headquarters at Antariksha Bhavan on New BEL Road. The message warned that the alleged explosives would detonate later in the day, prompting ISRO officials to immediately inform the Bengaluru Police.
Soon after receiving the alert, personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), sniffer dog units, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and local police arrived at the premises. Security teams carried out a comprehensive search of office buildings, laboratories, parking areas, and other sensitive locations within the campus. As a precaution, access to parts of the headquarters was temporarily restricted while the operation was underway.
Following several hours of inspection, authorities confirmed that no explosives or suspicious objects were found, and the threat was declared a hoax. Despite the false alarm, security has been strengthened around the ISRO headquarters due to the repeated nature of the incidents.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the origin of the latest email. Cybercrime experts are analysing digital evidence to identify the sender and determine whether the repeated threats are connected. Officials have indicated that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for creating panic and disrupting the functioning of a critical national institution.
ISRO officials confirmed that the organisation’s operations were not affected and resumed normal activities after security agencies completed the inspection. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours while the investigation continues.
