The Kerala High Court has sought a detailed report from the Transport Commissioner regarding the tragic tourist van accident in Valparai that claimed the lives of 10 people from Kerala. The court intervened after serious concerns were raised about road safety, vehicle fitness, and possible negligence connected to the accident.

The incident occurred in the hilly Valparai region of Tamil Nadu when a tourist van carrying passengers from Kerala reportedly lost control and plunged into a deep gorge. Several others sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Rescue operations were carried out by police, fire force teams, and local authorities under difficult terrain conditions.

During the hearing, the High Court asked the Transport Commissioner to submit a comprehensive report covering the vehicle’s permit status, fitness certificate, speed regulations, driver details, and safety compliance measures. The court also reportedly sought clarification on whether tourism vehicles operating in hilly regions are undergoing proper inspections and monitoring.

The accident has triggered widespread concern across Kerala regarding the safety of tourist vehicles, especially those traveling through mountain roads and dangerous bends. Families of the victims and several public organizations demanded stricter enforcement of transport regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Authorities stated that investigations are continuing to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that difficult road conditions, possible overspeeding, or mechanical failure may have contributed to the crash, though officials have not yet confirmed the final reason.

Meanwhile, the Kerala government has assured support for the victims’ families and directed officials to coordinate with Tamil Nadu authorities for further investigation and assistance. Road safety experts have also called for improved monitoring systems, mandatory driver training for hill routes, and stronger vehicle safety checks for tourist transport services.

The High Court’s intervention has once again highlighted growing concerns over road safety standards and tourist vehicle regulations in South India’s hill regions.
