India Meteorological Department has continued its heavy rain watch across Kochi and several districts in Kerala as forecasts predict isolated intense rainfall in the coming days. Authorities have issued alerts for multiple regions, warning residents about possible thunderstorms, strong winds, waterlogging, and localized flooding as pre-monsoon activity strengthens across the state.
Districts including Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Idukki, Kannur, and Malappuram are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Officials stated that weather conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for the early arrival of the southwest monsoon in Kerala, which is likely to intensify rain activity further over the next week.
In Kochi, civic authorities have already intensified drainage cleaning, canal maintenance, and emergency preparedness activities to reduce the risk of flooding in low-lying areas. Disaster management teams, fire force units, and health departments have been placed on alert to respond quickly in case of emergencies caused by heavy rainfall.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the sea due to rough weather conditions and strong winds along the Kerala coast. Residents living near rivers, coastal regions, and landslide-prone hilly areas have been urged to remain cautious and closely follow official weather updates.
Traffic congestion and waterlogging were reported in several parts of Kochi following intermittent heavy showers over the past few days. Local authorities stated that pumps and emergency response equipment are being kept ready to manage flooding situations if rainfall intensity increases.
Meanwhile, farmers across many districts welcomed the rainfall after weeks of summer heat, expecting positive effects on agriculture and water availability. However, health officials warned about the possibility of waterborne diseases during the rainy season and advised the public to maintain hygiene and avoid contaminated water sources.
Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation closely as Kerala prepares for intensified monsoon activity in the coming days.
