Bengaluru commuters may soon receive relief as work on the long-awaited Pink Line Metro reaches its final stages. Several stations on the corridor, including Tavarekere, Hulimavu, JP Nagar 4th Phase, and IIMB station, are reportedly nearing operational readiness after repeated delays over the past few years.
The first operational stretch of the Pink Line is expected to cover approximately 7.5 kilometres between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere. The corridor is considered crucial because it serves some of the city’s busiest residential and educational areas along Bannerghatta Road. Major institutions and landmarks such as Christ University, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, hospitals, and shopping zones are expected to benefit from improved connectivity.
Metro officials believe the Pink Line will reduce traffic pressure on Bannerghatta Road, which is known for severe congestion during peak hours. Thousands of daily commuters currently rely on buses and private vehicles, leading to slow movement and long travel times. Residents have been eagerly waiting for the line’s launch, viewing it as an important public transport upgrade for South Bengaluru.
Despite the progress, the project has faced multiple setbacks over the years, including contractor issues and construction delays. Earlier deadlines were repeatedly postponed, frustrating commuters and local businesses. Authorities now indicate that the line could begin phased operations during 2026 once safety approvals and final testing are completed.
Urban transport experts say the Pink Line will play a major role in strengthening Bengaluru’s expanding metro network. The corridor is also expected to improve integration with future metro routes and reduce dependence on private vehicles in some of the city’s most crowded neighbourhoods.
Residents are hopeful that the opening of the Pink Line will mark a significant improvement in Bengaluru’s public transport system and provide faster, cleaner, and more reliable urban mobility.
