The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) announced the launch of a new Global Social Science Research Body as part of its 90th anniversary celebrations. The initiative aims to strengthen international collaboration and research partnerships among countries from the Global South.

TISS officials said the organization will focus on research related to governance, sustainability, public health, migration, urbanization, technology, and social transformation. The institute also plans to introduce new international dual-degree programs with universities from the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

The announcement was made during the “Building Bridges in Social Sciences” global colloquium held at the Deonar campus in Mumbai. Scholars, diplomats, policymakers, and researchers from different countries are attending the event.

TISS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari stated that the institution wants to become a leading global center for policy-driven social science research. Education experts believe the initiative will improve India’s academic partnerships and global educational presence.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is expected to participate in the inaugural session of the event. The institute hopes the new body will encourage interdisciplinary research and help solve global social challenges through cooperation and innovation news as reported.
