Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens across India to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption as global oil prices continue to rise amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region. Speaking during a public address, Modi emphasized the importance of energy conservation and called for greater use of public transport, carpooling, and renewable energy alternatives.
The appeal comes as crude oil prices surged internationally following concerns over shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz. India, one of the world’s largest oil-importing nations, could face increased fuel import costs if the crisis deepens further.
Government officials stated that reducing fuel usage would help control inflationary pressure and lower the impact of rising global energy prices on the Indian economy. Experts also noted that higher oil prices could affect transportation costs, electricity generation, and essential commodity prices.
Several states are reportedly considering awareness campaigns promoting fuel-efficient travel and energy-saving measures in response to the Prime Minister’s remarks.
