The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts in Kerala, warning of isolated heavy rainfall and unstable weather conditions over the next 24–48 hours.
According to the meteorological forecast, isolated heavy rain — defined as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period — is likely in these two hilly districts starting tomorrow, with showers also possible in other parts of the state as weather activity increases.
Forecasters say the rainfall is linked to a low-pressure system that has formed over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to influence Kerala’s weather pattern, enhancing moisture flow into the state. This could lead to light to moderate showers across Kerala over the next three days.
Authorities have advised residents, especially in landslide-prone and hilly areas, to remain cautious and follow local safety instructions. Rain in these regions can increase the risk of landslips, waterlogging, and disrupted transportation
The IMD alert comes as weather conditions continue to remain unsettled, with officials saying that although the system is not expected to directly hit the Kerala coast, its indirect effects will likely cause widespread cloudiness and rainfall.
Local administrations are on alert and may issue further warnings if conditions worsen. Residents have been encouraged to monitor updates from the IMD and district authorities, and those planning travel or outdoor activities in the affected areas are urged to exercise caution.
This development follows earlier advisories for the state regarding rain and shows ongoing weather volatility as Kerala moves through the current forecast period.
