Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is set to host the “Vision 2031: Development and Democracy” International Conference from 15–17 February 2026, bringing together global experts, thought leaders and policymakers to deliberate on pathways for sustainable growth and inclusive governance. The three-day event will be inaugurated on 15 February at the Shankaranarayanan Thampi Hall of the Kerala Legislative Assembly by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, with Revenue Minister K Rajan presiding over the opening function.

The conference features an impressive lineup of speakers, including Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, eminent historian Romila Thapar, and World Food Prize winner Shakuntala Thilsted, among others, who are expected to share insights on development models, democratic values and future economic and social strategies.

On 16 and 17 February, a series of technical sessions will be held across nine venues in the city. These sessions are designed to synthesise discussions from the 34 seminars previously held across Kerala’s 14 districts, offering a platform for experts to evaluate the state’s development initiatives and propose forward-looking strategies.

The closing segment of the conference will include a seminar on “Secularism, Democracy and a Responsive Government,” featuring prominent leaders such as Farooq Abdullah, Prakash Karat, Kanimozhi and Justice Shah, fostering dialogue on governance and civic engagement in plural democratic societies.

Organisers hope the event will not only highlight Kerala’s developmental achievements but also facilitate cross-border exchange of ideas to chart effective policy approaches for the decade leading to 2031 news as reported.
