Hyderabad witnessed sudden unseasonal rainfall accompanied by strong winds, leading to widespread disruption across the city. The unexpected weather event caused major traffic congestion, especially in the western IT corridor, affecting daily commuters.
Several areas recorded significant rainfall, including Shaikpet, Golconda, and Gachibowli. In some localities like Kondapur, hailstorms were also reported, adding to the intensity of the weather conditions.
The strong winds proved particularly damaging, uprooting more than a dozen trees and causing electric poles to collapse in certain areas. One major incident on the Gachibowli-DLF road resulted in a temporary closure, creating long traffic jams and delays for commuters traveling through the busy stretch.
Emergency response teams, including the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), were deployed quickly to clear fallen trees and restore normal traffic flow. Their swift action helped minimize prolonged disruption, though traffic remained slow in several parts for hours.
Weather officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have warned that similar conditions may continue in the coming days. They have predicted light to moderate rainfall in parts of Telangana, along with gusty winds and possible lightning strikes.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains, and stay away from weak structures or trees during strong winds. The sudden weather change highlights the city’s vulnerability to climate variability and the need for improved urban resilience.
