Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the next round of U.S.–brokered trilateral peace talks between Ukraine and Russia is expected to take place in Abu Dhabi in early March, following recent discussions in Geneva between Ukrainian and American officials.
The Geneva meetings, which focused primarily on post-war reconstruction and economic planning, were part of a broader U.S. diplomatic push torestart momentum in negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, now entering its fifth year. Zelenskyy said the outcome of the talks helped prepare the groundwork for a more substantive trilateral session with Russia, stressing the need to finalize security guarantees and agreed positions before involving leadership at the highest level.
Previous rounds of trilateral negotiations have already been held in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, but have so far failed to yield a final agreement on core issues such as territorial control and security arrangements. Ukrainian officials, including chief negotiator Rustem Umerov, noted that preparations are underway to make the Abu Dhabi talks as substantive as possible, with attention on economic solutions and the details of reconstruction.
While hopes for a breakthrough continue, both Kyiv and Moscow remain far apart on key political and territorial questions, and the conflict continues on the battlefield as diplomatic efforts persist.
