WASHINGTON, Feb 20 — U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark ultimatum to Iran, urging Tehran to reach a meaningful agreement on its contentious nuclear programme within the next 10–15 days or face “serious consequences”, as diplomatic efforts and military pressures intensify.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting of his newly established “Board of Peace” in Washington, Trump said that while negotiations with Iranian officials have shown some progress, Tehran must deliver a concrete deal soon or the United States could respond with actions beyond diplomacy. “We have to make a meaningful deal, otherwise bad things happen,” the president told reporters, setting a clear deadline for negotiations. Military assets, including the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, have been deployed to the Middle East in a show of force linked to the stance.
Iran has maintained that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, and Iranian negotiators are preparing a counterproposal expected to be submitted to U.S. counterparts imminently. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran is ready to resume substantive talks, though key disagreements remain, notably on uranium enrichment and sanctions relief.
The ultimatum comes amid heightened regional tension, with Tehran warning that any military action will be met with decisive retaliation and global concerns growing over the potential for escalation. News as reported
