Traffic congestion across Hyderabad has intensified over the past few weeks, with commuters facing longer travel times due to ongoing infrastructure projects and road repairs. Key junctions such as Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Kukatpally have reported severe bottlenecks during peak hours.
Officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) stated that multiple flyover and road expansion projects are underway but have been delayed due to logistical challenges and unseasonal rains. These delays have resulted in partial road closures, further aggravating congestion.
Daily commuters, especially IT professionals working in the HITEC City corridor, have expressed frustration over unpredictable travel times. “What used to take 30 minutes now takes over an hour,” said a software employee who travels between Secunderabad and Gachibowli.
Traffic police have increased deployment at major intersections and are encouraging the use of public transport. However, citizens argue that public transport systems remain overcrowded and insufficient to meet demand.
Urban planning experts have urged authorities to adopt long-term traffic management solutions, including better synchronization of signals and promotion of carpooling. Meanwhile, GHMC officials have assured that major works will be completed within the next few months, which they claim will ease congestion significantly.
Until then, residents are advised to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.
