Kerala continues to experience unsettled weather as thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy rain conditions persist across several parts of the state under the influence of a lingering low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather advisories for parts of Kerala, forecasting scattered to isolated rainfall and thunderstorm activity today and into the next few days, with winds potentially gusting between 30–40 km/h in some areas.

The IMD’s latest forecast indicates that isolated heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely across both coastal and interior regions of Kerala, driven by atmospheric instability in the region. While rainfall intensity may vary locally, residents should remain cautious, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas where waterlogging or localized disruption may occur.

This unsettled spell comes amid a broader pattern of weather disturbances affecting southern India. Yellow alerts have also been issued for several districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki, advising people to be prepared for moderate to heavy rainfall and possible hazards such as lightning and strong winds.

Travel disruptions and slippery roads remain a concern in areas where rain is more intense, and authorities have urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution. Coastal communities and fishermen have also been advised to monitor conditions closely due to the potential for rough seas and squally winds near the shoreline over the next 24–48 hours.

The weather is expected to gradually improve after the current frontal activity passes, but intermittent rain and thunderstorms may continue for a short period. Residents are reminded to stay updated with the latest forecasts and weather warnings, and to take necessary precautions to ensure safety during periods of heavy rainfall and electrical activity in the atmosphere.
