The Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has rolled out an ambitious new initiative called ‘Thirike’ aimed at reversing the outflow of skilled professionals from the state and attracting both IT and non-IT talent back to Kerala for quality job opportunities and improved living conditions. The launch underscores the state’s broader strategy to strengthen its knowledge economy by tapping into the expertise of Malayali professionals working elsewhere in India and abroad.

Under the ‘Thirike’ campaign, a comprehensive digital database will be created, where professionals interested in returning can register and share their qualifications, experience, and career aspirations. This database will then be made accessible to companies and entrepreneurs willing to invest in Kerala, helping bridge the gap between local demand for skilled talent and the aspirations of returning professionals. Only firms committed to establishing operations or growing their workforce in Kerala will have access to the talent pool, ensuring meaningful opportunities and mutual benefit.

KSUM CEO Anoop Ambika explained that many Malayali professionals have historically migrated to other states or countries in search of higher salaries and job growth. However, Kerala’s expanding ecosystem—with its burgeoning startup culture, favorable business environment, and strong quality of life—now offers compelling reasons for professionals to consider returning. The initiative also aligns with the growing number of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and multinational firms establishing a presence in Kerala, signaling robust future employment prospects.

Officials behind the campaign believe ‘Thirike’ will not only help Kerala retain and reclaim talent but also contribute to regional development by fueling innovation, fresh investments, and job creation. Experts predict that as the state continues to lure global companies and expand its tech footprint, reverse migration could gain momentum—potentially transforming Kerala into a preferred destination for skilled professionals seeking both career growth and a balanced lifestyle.
