The Telangana government has introduced a new unified online portal to regulate and streamline processes related to surrogacy, IVF (In Vitro Fertilization), and prenatal diagnostic services. This initiative aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability in reproductive healthcare services across Hyderabad and the state.
The move comes in response to regulatory gaps exposed during a 2025 scandal involving illegal surrogacy practices at a Hyderabad fertility center. Authorities recognized the need for stricter monitoring and better coordination between healthcare providers and regulatory bodies.
The new portal allows individuals and medical facilities to complete applications, submit documents, and track approvals online. Previously, applicants had to visit multiple offices physically, making the process time-consuming and cumbersome. With digitization, most steps can now be completed remotely, with in-person visits required only when absolutely necessary.
Healthcare institutions can also use the system to apply for licenses, undergo inspections, and ensure compliance with regulations. Features such as automated notifications, digital inspections, and standardized reporting are expected to reduce delays and improve oversight.
In addition, the government has launched a Clinical Establishments Act (CEA) portal to manage licensing for hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers. This replaces the earlier manual system and centralizes all regulatory processes.
Officials believe this digital transformation will not only simplify procedures but also prevent malpractice by ensuring stricter monitoring. Once fully implemented, the system is expected to enhance patient safety and strengthen trust in reproductive healthcare services.
