The Telangana government has launched a major initiative to boost local economic activity by auctioning over 1,400 commercial shops in 2BHK housing colonies across Hyderabad and surrounding districts.
The auction process began on April 9, starting with 273 shops in Rangareddy district, and will continue in phases across Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Sangareddy districts until April 21. These shops range from 60 to 400 square feet and are being offered at prices lower than market rates.
The goal of this initiative is to promote small businesses and improve access to essential goods and services within residential colonies. By providing affordable commercial spaces, the government aims to create employment opportunities and support local entrepreneurs.
The shops are being sold on an “as-is, where-is” basis, and interested buyers must inspect the properties and register through local administrative offices. Revenue generated from the auctions will be used for the maintenance and development of the housing colonies, managed by welfare associations.
This initiative is seen as a step toward improving urban infrastructure and self-sustainability within government housing projects. It also reflects the government’s focus on integrating residential and commercial spaces for better community living.
If implemented effectively, this move could strengthen local economies and provide long-term benefits to residents.
