Telangana, with Hyderabad as its main urban center, has emerged as one of India’s leaders in sustainable construction and green buildings. According to the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), the state currently has more than 1,245 registered green building projects, covering over 1.67 billion square feet of space.
This achievement was highlighted during the IGBC Green Telangana Summit 2026, where experts discussed environmentally friendly urban development. Many of the projects include commercial buildings, residential complexes, metro transit systems, logistics hubs, and environmentally sustainable infrastructure.
The data shows that 715 projects are commercial buildings, while 335 are residential developments. Other projects include metro transit facilities, logistics centers, and more than twenty net-zero energy initiatives. These projects are designed to reduce carbon emissions, conserve water, and improve energy efficiency.
International and national leaders attending the summit praised Telangana’s policy-driven approach to sustainable development. They noted that the state is demonstrating how rapid urban growth can be balanced with environmental protection.
During the event, officials also released a special book showcasing more than forty successful green projects in the state. Additionally, forty-seven new projects covering 46.3 million square feet were recognized for adopting IGBC standards.
Experts believe that the expansion of green buildings will reduce pollution, improve energy efficiency, and support long-term sustainable growth in Hyderabad. The initiative is also expected to encourage other cities in India to adopt environmentally friendly construction practices.
