In Kalpetta, Wayanad district, a 16-year-old boy was brutally assaulted by a group of youths, prompting police to register a case and launch a detailed investigation. The shocking incident came to light after video footage of the attack surfaced on social media, drawing widespread attention and public concern over juvenile violence in the region.

According to police reports and the visuals, the assault occurred on the evening of January 21, 2026, at a playground in Kalpetta. The victim, a student of Kaniyambetta Government Higher Secondary School, was allegedly called to the spot by fellow students. The footage shows the boy being struck repeatedly with sticks on his head, face, and back, and being forced to apologise while holding the feet of his assailants.

The police in Kalpetta registered a case on January 24 based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father. Investigators have stated that the attack may have been triggered by a personal disagreement between the youths involved, although the exact motive is still under scrutiny.

Initial action by authorities led to the identification of three juveniles seen in the video. Two of them were taken into custody early in the investigation, and an 18-year-old man from Kalpetta was later arrested from a hospital, bringing the total number of accused in custody to three. Efforts are ongoing to locate any other individuals involved who have not yet been detained.

Kalpetta police have said the case is being thoroughly investigated to determine all aspects of the assault, including the role of each accused and whether any further legal provisions will be applied. Officials have also appealed to the public to cooperate with the investigation and to refrain from sharing or sensationalising graphic content online.

The incident has reignited discussions about juvenile crime and school safety, with local residents and authorities urging greater awareness and preventive measures to protect young people in the community.
