Tambaram, Chennai – The rapidly growing suburban city of Tambaram is poised to unveil a striking new ₹8 crore public landmark tower and park by the end of 2026, civic officials announced. The project, planned along the Radial Road on a two-acre Open Space Reservation (OSR) plot in Zone 2, aims to provide residents with a vibrant recreational space and a new point of civic pride — filling a long-standing gap as Tambaram currently lacks an iconic public landmark akin to Chennai’s Anna Nagar Tower Park and the Royapettah Clock Tower.

According to Tambaram Corporation Commissioner S. Balachander, the design inspiration came from similar urban spaces in cities like Chennai and Coimbatore, with the goal of creating a family-friendly destination that encourages leisure, community gatherings and outdoor activities. The tower will be complemented by landscaped areas, children’s play zones and seating spaces for visitors.

While many residents have welcomed the proposal, some have urged authorities to balance aesthetic developments with pressing civic needs, noting ongoing issues with drainage, water supply and accessibility. Urban planner T. Shankar highlighted concerns about the site’s distance from major Tambaram hubs, suggesting careful planning to ensure the landmark is easily reachable for all residents.

The landmark initiative forms part of broader suburban development efforts to enhance quality of life and public infrastructure in Tambaram,  news as reported.
