The Kerala Health Department has issued a statewide alert over the rising risk of mosquito-borne diseases as the state approaches the upcoming monsoon season. Health authorities have urged residents and local bodies to take preventive measures to reduce mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of infections such as Dengue Fever, Chikungunya, and Malaria.
According to officials, the alert was issued after health workers observed an increase in mosquito populations in several districts due to changing weather conditions and occasional rainfall. The department warned that stagnant water in residential areas, construction sites, and public spaces can quickly become breeding grounds for mosquitoes if not properly managed.
District health authorities have been instructed to intensify surveillance and sanitation activities through local bodies and health centers. Teams from the National Health Mission and local health departments will conduct inspections in high-risk areas and carry out awareness campaigns to educate people about mosquito control.
Residents have been advised to eliminate stagnant water around their homes, including in containers, discarded tires, flowerpots, and water tanks. Local governments are also being encouraged to improve waste management, drainage maintenance, and sanitation measures to prevent water accumulation in public areas.
Health officials emphasized that community participation is essential to control mosquito-borne diseases. Early symptoms of infections such as fever, severe headache, joint pain, and fatigue should not be ignored, and individuals experiencing these symptoms are advised to seek medical attention promptly.
The department stated that preventive actions taken before the monsoon season can significantly reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases and protect public health across Kerala. Authorities will continue monitoring the situation closely and may introduce additional measures if necessary.
