The Kerala Agriculture Department has launched new support programs aimed at helping farmers adopt climate-resilient crops and sustainable farming practices across the state. The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen agricultural productivity while addressing the challenges posed by changing weather patterns and environmental pressures.

Officials said the program will focus on encouraging farmers to cultivate crops that can withstand extreme weather conditions such as irregular rainfall, rising temperatures, and occasional drought. Agricultural experts will guide farmers in selecting suitable crop varieties and modern cultivation techniques that improve resilience and maintain stable yields.

The department is also promoting sustainable farming methods, including organic farming, soil conservation, water-efficient irrigation, and integrated pest management. These practices are designed to reduce the use of harmful chemicals, improve soil fertility, and protect local ecosystems while maintaining productivity.

Training programs and workshops will be conducted through the Krishi Bhavan offices located in different districts. Agricultural officers and scientists will provide farmers with technical support, demonstration projects, and information on modern farming technologies.

Financial assistance and subsidies will also be provided for farmers who adopt climate-friendly agricultural practices. Support will include access to improved seeds, farm equipment, irrigation systems, and other resources needed to implement sustainable cultivation methods.

The initiative is expected to benefit farmers across several districts, including Palakkad, Thrissur, and Alappuzha, where agriculture plays a vital role in the local economy.

Officials emphasized that climate change has increasingly affected agricultural activities in Kerala. By promoting climate-resilient crops and environmentally friendly farming techniques, the government hopes to ensure long-term food security while supporting the livelihoods of farmers throughout the state. 🌾
