Commuters in Bengaluru can expect improved connectivity at one of the city’s busiest intersections, as plans move forward to construct an elevated pedestrian walkway at Silk Board Junction. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has issued tenders for the project, which will connect two major metro corridors.

The proposed 250-meter-long walkway will link the Yellow Line (Bommasandra to RV Road) with the under-construction Blue Line along the Outer Ring Road. Notably, the structure will feature the city’s first travelator—a moving walkway typically seen in airports—aimed at easing pedestrian movement between stations.

Estimated to cost around ₹59 crore, the project is expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve commuter experience in the Silk Board area, which is notorious for heavy traffic and long travel times. The Blue Line is projected to connect to Kempegowda International Airport by 2027, making this interchange even more critical.

Unlike other metro interchanges, Silk Board will not have a direct station-to-station connection, making the elevated walkway essential for seamless transfers. Construction is expected to begin after the tender process concludes, with completion targeted within nine months of commencement.

Urban planners have praised the initiative, noting that such infrastructure upgrades are essential to keep pace with the city’s growing population and transport demands.

The project reflects Bengaluru’s continued push toward modernizing its public transport system and reducing dependence on road-based commuting.
