Former Tamil Nadu minister and DMK MLA V. Senthil Balaji has been summoned by the Greater Chennai Police to appear for questioning on July 6 in connection with the alleged attempt to bribe a ruling TVK legislator. The summons, issued by the Triplicane Police, also names his brother R. V. Ashok Kumar, who has been asked to join the inquiry. As investigators were unable to locate the two at their Karur residence, the notices were served to their father, and police have also issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) to prevent them from leaving the country while the investigation is underway.
The investigation stems from allegations by TVK MLA Dr. N. Ilaiyaraja, who claimed he was offered ₹35 crore to vote against the Assembly Speaker in an alleged bid to destabilize the state government. Police have already arrested several suspects and say statements from those in custody led to the summons issued to Senthil Balaji and his brother. Investigators are examining financial transactions, communications, and the alleged network behind the purported bribery attempt.
The case has quickly become one of Tamil Nadu’s most closely watched political investigations. Both Senthil Balaji and his brother are expected to respond through legal channels, while the probe continues into what police describe as an alleged conspiracy to influence legislators.
