The Secunderabad railway station is undergoing a massive redevelopment aimed at transforming it into a modern, airport-like transit hub, with officials confirming that the project is on track for completion by December 2026.
The ₹700-crore project has already achieved nearly 60% completion and is part of a broader initiative to modernize key railway infrastructure in Telangana. Once completed, the station will feature a two-level air concourse designed to streamline passenger movement and reduce congestion.
One of the standout features of the redevelopment is the integration with Hyderabad’s metro network through skywalks connecting the station to both eastern and western metro corridors. This is expected to significantly improve urban mobility and connectivity for daily commuters.
The revamped station will also include modern amenities such as food courts, retail outlets, leisure spaces, and separate entry and exit points to manage crowd flow more efficiently. Additionally, infrastructure upgrades like full platform roofing, travellators, and a multi-level parking facility for thousands of vehicles are being implemented.
Sustainability is another key focus of the project, with plans for a large solar power installation, rainwater harvesting systems, sewage treatment plants, and electric vehicle charging stations.
Officials believe that this transformation will not only enhance passenger experience but also position Secunderabad as a model railway hub in India. Similar upgrades are also planned for other stations, including Nampally, under the “Amrit Stations” initiative.
